Reflections on Fawakih Summer Arabic Intensive 2013
June 7, kicked off the 2013 Fawakih Quranic Arabic Summer Intensive. The Arabic Intensive, offered every summer in DC is one of Fawakih’s most highly anticipated programs of the year. Offering both a full-time as well as a part-time program, Fawakih aims to help students taste the fruits of their Islamic studies through the hands on application with the Qur’an and hadith to become educated and spiritually enlightened Muslims who institute positive change in their environment.
Throughout the Intensive, Fawakih students immersed themselves in a rigorous five week study of grammar, morphology and reading skills with the goal of building Quranic literacy. Full time students had additional classes in listening, writing and speaking to improve their communication abilities. The curriculum was designed so that students apply their knowledge to the reading of the Quran and ‘ibadaat, especially during the month of Ramadan, which, opportunely, begins as the program ends.
The classes were capped off by a graduation ceremony on Saturday, July 6, with keynote speaker Ustadh Faisal Matadar and a dinner.
We invite community members, leaders, and teachers of weekend schools to enroll in Fawakih’s programs and benefit from their unique method of teaching Quranic Arabic. The summer program also serves as a strong foundation for those who wish to enroll in Fawakih’s year-long Arabic program.
