Seerah and Islamic History Certificate Program
The Fairfax Institute (TFI) offers the Seerah and Islamic History certificate program, which consists of four courses on selected topics. Each course is offered during each of Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer terms of 2010-2011. Each course is 12 contact-hours.

♦ SIH1 Seerah: Lessons from The Prophet’s Life - Registration is Open
Location: The Fairfax Institute, 500 Grove Street,
Herndon, VA 20170
Registration is Open
This course will focus on lessons that are relevant and applicable to our times. It will approach the Seerah in a non-traditional fashion. The course will enable students to examine the Seerah on their own, after getting a general idea of how to approach the sources and develop the ability to look at it for guidance and direction.
♦ SIH2 Early Islamic History: The Rightly guided Caliphs
This course will cover two main parts consisting of four lectures each. The first part will be focusing on the achievements, developments and institutions put forth by the first caliphs. Then, the second part of the course will mainly focus on dispelling the myths and lies that have circulated around this specific time period, especially the reasons behind the false narrations and how to read the books of history; The accusations put forth against Uthman and their refutations; the real reasons behind the wars between the Sahabah, etc……
♦ SIH3 Early Muslim History: Backdrop to Islamic Civilization
This course will provide an overview of early Islamic History by tracing a series of prominent themes. Beginning with the Umayyad dynasty, it will also explore the rise, expansion, and fall of the Abbasid, Fatimid, Seljuk, and Mamluk empires. Additionally, it will highlight the early Islamic presence in Europe (primarily Spain) and Africa, and the interaction between Islam and the Crusades.
