Present Faculty:
Dr. Jamal Barzinji is vice president of International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) USA. IIIT is a private non-profit academic and cultural institution concerned with research, pubication and conferences related to general issues of Islam and contemporary social sciences. Dr. Barzinji is a former dean of the College of Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences at International Islamic University Malaysia.
Dr. Iqbal Unus is the director of TFI. A former secretary general of Islamic Society of North America,
Dr. Unus offers leadership course and facilitates strategic planning workshop for Islam-based Muslim community organizations locally and nationally.
Dr. M. Yaqub Mirza is president and CEO of Sterling Management Group. He sits on the boards of several business entities, including poultry and fruit juice operations. Dr. Mirza is a former trustee of Amana Mutual Funds Trust and advises it and other entities in investment matters.
Dr. Hisham Y. Altalib is currently the Vice President of Finance for IIIT. He started his career as an electrical engineer, he changed paths and became active in Islamic work in North America. He was a founding member of SAAR Foundation and held the position of director.
Dr. Abubaker Al-Shingieti is currently the Vice President for Islamic Programs at the International Center for Religion and Diplomacy (ICRD). He is also the Regional Director for the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) covering Europe and North America. He has been a research associate at the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service.

Dr. Daoud Nassimi,
recently finished his PhD in Islamic studies. His dissertation was on a comparative review of some English translations of the Qur’an. He has been an activist and a student of Islam in the last 22 years in the United States. More...
Dr. Ahmad Kazemi Moussavi is professor of Islamic law and modern evelopments in the Islamic world, currently lecturing at the University of Maryland. He was born and educated law in Iran. He served 18 years as a lawyer and diplomat in the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before 1980. He received his Ph.D. in “Islamic Studies” from McGill University in 1991. Dr. Moussavi taught at McGill and Tehran Universities before joining the International Islamic University of Malaysia in 1992, where he taught Islamic legal institutions and modern Persian language till 2005. He published three books entitled Religious Authority in Shi’ite Islam, Shi’ite Ulama and Political Power and Facing One Qiblah, and more than 50 articles in academic journals.
Dr. Mohamed Nimer is the author of the North American Muslim Resourse Guide: Muslim Community Life in the United States and Canada and Islamophobia and Anti-Americanism: Causes and Remedies. He has worked as a research director at the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Washington, D.C. since 1996.
Monem A. Salam is director and Vice President of Islamic Investing and Amana’s deputy portfolio manager.He worked as Chief Investment Officer for ITG & Associates (Dallas), then as a representative with Morgan Stanley until joining Saturna Capital. Mr. Salam speaks at Islamic finance / investment conferences worldwide and in U.S. Islamic communities about spirituality, Sharia, and Islamic investing.
Imam Achmat Salie holds the Alim Fadil Kamil degree in Islamic Jurisprudence, graduate degree in Arabic, MBA in E-Commerce, and doctrorate in Business Leadership. He is the coordinator of the Islamic studies program. He contributed to the book by Sally G. Bingham, Leading Religious Voices Speak Out on Our Sacred Duty to Protect the Environment. He works closely with the Muslim Students Association at OU, offering advising and counseling, and speaking at on-going interfaith events. He directs the Islamic Center and participates on the advisory boards of the Islamic University Bank, Huda Montessori and Michigan Interfaith Power and Light. He is at work on a book and articles exploring the theme of Muhammad as CEO and servant leader. He can be reached at salie@oakland.edu. Amaarah DeCuir is the Principal of Al Fatih Academy, a full-time Islamic school in Sterling, Virginia. She holds a M. Ed. degree from Howard University, with a focus on Elementary Education, Curriculum, and Instruction; and a B.A. in History from the University of California, Berkeley. She began her career in education as a public school teacher for five years. She enjoys her work in teacher education, helping to facilitate high quality curriculum and instruction
in our part-time and full-time Islamic schools.
